The Motor Vehicle Mechanic perform maintenance, repair, and recovery operations on wheeled vehicles and select armored vehicles that serve the Army in a variety of mission-critical roles. Inspect, service, maintain, repair, replace, adjust, and test wheeled vehicles, material handling equipment systems (Hydraulics), subsystems and components, and automotive electrical systems, including wiring harnesses and starting and charging systems.  In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.

Special Equipment

Maintain and replace broken actuators, batteries, starter motors, mechanical fuel pumps and electronic cylinders pumps and control valves.  Service drive shafts, universal joints, service brake shoes,  water pumps and turbo chargers.  Maintain and replace cylinder heads, high-pressure fuel injection pumps.  Adjust engine speed of governor/valves, carburetors, steering brakes, fuel injector racks and steering unit brake levers.  Charge suspension accumulators, transmission shift accumulators and main hydraulic accumulators.

Heavy Equipment Maintenance

Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain heavy equipment.   Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
